Eng↓ 中古で購入された日本製Greco SGが調整で入庫。ローフレットがかなり削れていた一方で、ハイフレットはほぼ無傷。ただしG弦全体に深い打痕がありました。

全部解決するならリフレットですが、高額になる前にまず擦り合わせ＋クラウン処理でどこまでいけるか試すことに。

難しかったのは、ローフレットをしっかり落としつつ、ハイフレットは高さを保たないといけない点。逆にハイフレットが高すぎるとビビリが出る可能性もあります。

まずはテストでクラウン処理し、打痕がどこまで減るか確認。その後、ローフレットはしっかり、ハイフレットは軽めに擦り合わせ。G弦の一部はあえて打痕を少し残しました（チョーキングしないポジション）。おかげでハイフレットは高さをキープでき、結果はバズなし＆快適なプレイアビリティ。

カスタムショップ級の仕上がりになりました。
ちなみに、VibramateのおかげでBigsbyは無加工で取り付け可能。これはナイス。
This Japanese Greco SG came in for a tune-up. It was purchased used and had seriously worn frets in the lower register, while the upper frets were almost untouched—except for some deep pitting on the G string across the board.

A full refret would’ve solved everything, but before taking that expensive route, I wanted to see if a fret level and crown could get the guitar back in shape.

The challenge was getting the lower frets level enough without making the upper frets feel too low. If the upper frets stayed too high, we risked buzzing.

I did test crowning first, then went with a heavy level on the lower frets, light level on the upper, and left a little pitting on the G string in spots where players don't bend much. After lots of crowning, the result was smooth, buzz-free playability — no need for a refret.

Plus, my fretwork brings it into custom shop territory.
Bonus: the Vibramate allowed Bigsby install with zero new holes. Super slick.

ENG↓ Fender Japan Ishibashi FSR Late 60s Jazzmaster、Seymour Duncan Antiquity II にピックアップ交換！🎸✨
オーナーさん持ち込みの金ラメのピックアップカバーも取り付けました！めっちゃカッコいい！

最初に気づいたのは…フレットエッジがカミソリ並みに鋭い😨。正直、Fender Japan ならもうちょいちゃんとしてほしいところ。ただ、ハイフレットはなしだったので擦り合わせは不要。エッジを丸めてスムーズにするフレット処理をしました！個人的にフレットの快適さはギターにとって最重要ポイント。

次に、リード回路のコンデンサーが 0.047μF になってた。伝統的なJazzmasterは0.033μF だから、Montreux Retro Series 0.033μF に交換！

弦高が高すぎたので、0.25°のネックシムを入れて調整。

今後のアップグレードとして、ブリッジを Ron Thorn thornguitars のBrass Knuckleに変更することは検討中！

指板も3回 Music Nomad F-Oneオイルで保湿＆色味アップ！

This Fender Japan Ishibashi FSR Late 60s Jazzmaster came in for a pickup upgrade to Seymour Duncan Antiquity IIs. The owner also had these gold flake pickup covers, which add a unique touch! 🎸✨

The first thing I noticed? Razor-sharp fret ends. Gotta be honest—I was disappointed, since Fender Japan usually does good fretwork. That said, there were no high frets, so a full fret level wasn’t needed. Instead, I did a fret dress to smooth out the ends. Comfortable fretwork is the #1 most important upgrade to any guitar.

Next up, I found that the lead circuit capacitor was a 0.047μF, whereas a traditional Jazzmaster should have a 0.033μF. Luckily, I had a Montreux Retro Series 0.033μF in stock and swapped it in.

To fix the high action, we installed a 0.25° neck shim.

For the future, we discussed upgrading the bridge to a Ron Thorn thornguitars Brass Knuckle.

The fingerboard got some love too—three coats of Music Nomad F-One oil to darken and hydrate it.

日本語↓Here’s the second Bacchus Strat my client asked me to fix up and sell.

I’m not entirely sure about the original color—could it be an aged Ice Blue Metallic? Firemist Silver? Or was it a factory Green Metallic? Whatever it was, with the mint green pickguard and aged pickup covers, it looks absolutely stunning.

And it’s not just about looks—the frets cleaned up beautifully without needing a level. I used my three-file crowning method to achieve very narrow crown tops while keeping the sides smoothly rounded. A bit of filing on the nut and saddles, plus some dabs of Big Bends Nut Sauce, should keep the tuning rock solid day and night.

And the Lollar pickups? Absolutely killer. This was my first time experiencing Lollars in person, and they do not disappoint. This thing is a beast!

お客様から修理＆販売を依頼されたBacchus Stratの2本目！

元のカラーが何だったのか正直分からない…エイジドアイスブルーメタリック？ファイアミストシルバー？それとも元々グリーンメタリック？どちらにせよ、ミントグリーンのピックガードとエイジドピックアップカバーの組み合わせが最高にカッコいい。

見た目だけじゃなく、フレットも擦り合わせなしで綺麗に仕上がった。3種類のファイルを使ったクラウニングで、頂点は細く、サイドはスムーズにラウンド。さらに、ナットとサドルを少し削って調整し、Big Bends Nut Sauceをしっかり塗布。これでチューニングも安定するはず。

そしてLollarピックアップ…これがヤバい。実は今回が初Lollar体験だったけど、評判通りのサウンド。まさにモンスターな一本！

For sale, English⬇️お客様から80年代初期のBacchusストラト2本を販売代行でお預かりしました。正直、作りの良さに驚きました。個人的にはFenderよりも上かも。

このキャンディアップルレッドの個体はフレットの高さが揃っていたので、すり合わせは不要でした。軽くすり合わせてピカピカにして、全体をしっかりクリーニング。セットアップも楽勝で、オクターブ調整はほぼ一発OK。低音弦だけ微調整したら完璧になりました。

スイッチチップ以外はオリジナルです。DMでオファーお待ちしてます！

My client brought me two early ‘80s Bacchus Stratocasters to sell on his behalf. I was blown away by the craftsmanship—honestly, better than Fender in my opinion.

For this Candy Apple Red one, the frets were already level, so I only did a recrown and dressing to restore them to like-new condition. After that, I gave it a full deep clean. The setup was a breeze—I eyeballed the intonation and got it nearly perfect, with just a small adjustment needed for the low E string.

It’s all original except for the switch tip. DM me with offers.

English⬇️この美しい 1983年製Gibson ES-335 (オールブラック) をお預かりしました！🎸✨

@leet.ryan さんからの依頼で、ボリュームポットのスムーズな変化がなく、8まではほぼ無音、その後急に大音量という状態でした。原因はリニアテーパーのポットが使われていたためで、オーディオテーパーに交換することで 1～10まで自然な音量変化を実現しました！

交換したのは Emersonのハーネス。最高品質のパーツで、スムーズなボリューム操作が可能に！

また、ホロウボディの修理は大変で、ピックアップキャビティやfホールを通して配線する必要があり、作業中は内部が見えないという難易度の高い作業でした。しかし4時間かけて無事に成功！💪

さらに、3ファイル・クラウニング方式でフレットのすり合わせと再成形を行いました。バインディングニブがあるので、フレットドレッシングは不要でした。

サウンドもプレイアビリティも格段に向上し、ビンテージギターの魅力がさらに引き出されました！🔥
This stunning 1983 Gibson ES-335 in all black came into the shop for a crucial fix. @leet.ryan brought it in because the volume pots had no gradual swell—turns out, they were linear taper instead of audio taper. The result? No sound until about 8, then suddenly loud. We swapped them out for an Emerson harness, the best in the game, ensuring a smooth, natural volume curve from 1 to 10.

Working on hollow-body guitars is always a challenge since everything has to be wired through the pickup cavity and f-holes without being able to see what we’re doing. But after 4 hours of meticulous work, it was a success!

On top of that, I leveled and recrowned the frets using my 3-file crowning method. Thanks to the binding nibs, there was no need for fret dressing. Now this vintage beauty not only sounds incredible but plays like a dream! 🔥

Eng↓友人から修理と販売を依頼された、2017年製のJim Root Telecasterです。

Jim Dunlop 6110 ジャンボフレットにリフレットしました。もともとのフレットワイヤーもこれだったと思います。工場出荷時のフレットから大幅にアップグレードされており、以下の作業を行いました：
1. エボニー指板を滑らかにして弾きやすく調整
2. 指板エッジをロール加工
3. Fender Custom Shopのような滑らかで丸みのあるフレットエンドに仕上げた完璧なフレットワーク

私のクラウン加工技術は、4種類のクラウンファイルを使い分けることで、最高にスムーズな演奏感を生み出します。

正直、このJim Root Telecasterは最高の仕上がりだと思います。Fender Mexico工場のフレット処理はエッジが鋭いことが多いですが、このギターは違います。

さらに、配線の修理、徹底的なクリーニング、フルセットアップも行いました。ただし、これは中古ギターであり、友人が購入した際にはハードケースが付属していませんでした。

This is my friend's 2017 Jim Root Telecaster, which she asked me to repair and sell.

I refretted it with Jim Dunlop 6110 Jumbo Frets, which I believe were the original fretwire. This is a significant upgrade from the factory frets, as it allowed me to:

Smooth out the ebony fingerboard for enhanced comfort
Roll the fingerboard edges
Perform a flawless fret job with smooth, rounded fret ends, similar to the Fender Custom Shop.
I guarantee that my crowning technique—using a combination of four different crowning files—creates the smoothest playing experience you'll ever feel on fret crowns.

I’d go as far as to say this might be the best Jim Root Telecaster out there, as Fender Mexico factory fretwork tends to have sharp fret ends.

Additionally, I repaired the wiring, performed a deep cleaning, and completed a full setup. However, please note that this is a used guitar. My friend purchased it without its original hard case.

ENG↓ お客様が購入した中古のAtelier Z ジャズベース、音が出ない状態でした。原因はバッテリークリップの断線だったので、新しいものに交換しました。その他に以下の作業を実施しました。

バッテリーキャビティの形状を調整し、バッテリーがしっかり収まるようにしました。
ポットをクリーニングし、ガリ音を解消しました。
全体を徹底クリーニング。
ピックガードを修復し、欠損していたネジを取り付けました。
フレットの擦り合わせ、クラウン処理、ドレッシングを行いました。深い凹みがあったため、擦り合わせか交換が必要でしたが、今回は軽い擦り合わせを実施。わずかに凹みは残っていますが、演奏には影響ありません。
フルセットアップ。
作業完了後、スムーズな弾き心地と美しいサウンドが復活しました！🎸🔧✨

The client bought a used Atelier Z Jazz Bass, but there was no sound. The culprit? A broken battery clip, which I replaced with a new one. After that, I did:

Reshaped the battery cavity for a snug fit so the battery won’t fall out.
Cleaned the pots to eliminate scratchy noises.
Full deep clean.
Restored the pickguard with screws (they were missing).
Leveled, crowned, and dressed the frets. There was deep pitting in the frets, which needed either leveling or replacement. I did a light level—there’s still minor pitting, but it won’t affect playability.
Full setup.
Now, it’s back to smooth playability and great tone! 🎸🔧✨

ENG↓ 1988年製USA製Kramer Pacer（キャンディアップルレッド）を修理しました。長年ケースに眠っていて、まったく機能していない状態でした。ボリュームがうまく絞れず、配線をチェックしたところ、2本の断線を発見し、修正しました。

今回はフレット交換も行い、6105ナロートールフレットを提案しました。最初はネックの塗装をそのまま残そうと考え、カミソリで古いフレットの周りの塗装を慎重に削りました。しかし、新しいフレットは元のミディアムジャンボより幅が狭いため、最終的に塗装を削り落として、煮沸リンシードオイルで再仕上げしました。結果的にとても綺麗で新鮮な仕上がりになり、やって正解でした。

元のフレットはタンがカットされ、木製パテで端を埋める処理がされていたので、今回も同じ方法を採用しました。これにより、冬に木が縮んでもフレットが飛び出すことがありません。

さらに、ネックポケットには布のようなシムが入っていましたが、代わりに0.25°のフルポケット木製シムを使用。これにより、超スムーズで低い弦高が実現しました。ナロートールフレットとの組み合わせで、まるでレーシングカーのような弾き心地になりました。

その他の作業として、すべてのハードウェア、ボディ、ネックの徹底クリーニング、フロイドローズのシーティングフォーム交換、ポットとスイッチの清掃（ガリ音解消）、そしてフルセットアップ（ネックの反り調整、弦高、オクターブ調整など）を行いました。

Here is a 1988 USA Kramer Pacer in Candy Apple Red. It had been sitting in its case for years, completely non-functional. The volume wouldn’t roll off, so I inspected the wiring and found two broken wires—fixed them right away.

We decided to refret it, and I recommended 6105 Narrow Tall frets. Initially, I wanted to avoid refinishing the neck, so I carefully used a razor to remove the finish from the edges of the old frets. However, since the new frets are narrower than the original medium jumbos, I ended up sanding off the finish and refinishing the neck with boiled linseed oil. Glad I did—it looks and feels fresh and clean.

The original frets had their tangs clipped off, with the edges filled using wood putty. I did the same, which prevents fret sprout when the wood shrinks in winter.

I also replaced some kind of fabric shim in the neck pocket with a 0.25° full pocket wooden neck shim. This allowed for super slick and low action. Combined with the narrow tall frets, this thing plays like a racecar.

Other work included a full deep clean of all hardware, body, and neck, replacing the Floyd Rose seating foam, cleaning the potentiometer and switches to eliminate scratchy noises, and a full setup (neck relief, action, intonation, etc.).

ENG⬇️この60年代製ヤマハはフレット交換のために持ち込まれましたが、それだけでは済みませんでした。フロントピックアップが物理的に破損していたため修理が必要でした。オーナーの希望でブラスナットを取り付け、ブリッジのオクターブ調整と弦の溝加工も行いました。トレモロの設計上、ブレークアングルがゼロなので、ネックにシムを入れて調整しました。さらに、キャビティを銅テープでシールド加工。設計上の課題を乗り越えるのは大変でしたが、最終的には創意工夫が勝利しました。

This 60s Yamaha came in for a refret, but it needed far more work. The front pickup was physically broken and required repair. The owner requested a brass nut, so I installed one. The bridge needed proper intonation, and I had to file new slots for the strings to sit correctly. The tremolo design had zero break angle, so I shimmed the neck to compensate. I also shielded the cavities with copper. Overcoming the design flaws was a real challenge, but in the end, ingenuity prevailed.

日本語↓This stunning Cortex bass came in for buzzing issues. The first suspect in any buzzing case is always neck relief, and sure enough, the neck was super back-bowed. I adjusted the truss rod to add proper relief and then lowered the saddles to maintain comfortable action.

While the fret ends were nicely dressed, the underside edges were a bit sharp, so I filed them down for a smoother feel. I also found seven high frets, so I did a light leveling (擦り合わせ) and followed up with my three-file fret crowning method to shape the frets slick, round, narrow, and tall.

This was an incredible upgrade to an already fine instrument. Now, it plays just as amazing as it looks!

この美しい Cortex ベースが「ビビり」の調整で持ち込まれました。ビビりの原因はまずネックの反りを疑うべきですが、案の定かなり逆反りしていました。トラスロッドを調整して順反りにし、その後サドルを下げて弦高を最適化。

フレットの端処理は綺麗でしたが、フレットの裏側のエッジが鋭かったので、滑らかに削りました。また、7本のフレットが浮いていたため、軽く擦り合わせをして、その後 3ファイルフレットクラウン法を使い、フレットを滑らかで、丸く、細く、高く仕上げました。

このベースはもともと素晴らしい楽器ですが、さらにワンランク上のプレイアビリティになりました！

Eng⬇️この Made in Japan ストラトは「音が出ない」という症状で持ち込まれました。調べたところ、単純にアウトプットジャックのグラウンド線が外れていただけだったので、再接続しました。

This Made in Japan Strat came in because no sound was coming out. Turned out simply the ground wire of the output jack came off so I reattached it.
Since the guitar was here we decided to upgrade it. First recrowned and dressed the frets so they play silky smooth. See photos. Frets are the most important part of the playing experience for me. Then we cleaned it and gave it a fresh setup. Nut slots needed to be deepened and I polished it up to 10,000 grit so it looks like a jewel. To get the bridge saddle screws down all the way we used a stewmac full pocket maple neck shim. Then we changed out the springs to Raw Vintage for that real Strat feel and sound

せっかくの機会なので、アップグレードも実施。まずフレットを再クラウン＆擦り合わせして、極上の弾き心地に仕上げました（写真参照）。フレットは演奏体験の中で最も重要な部分だと思っています。続いて、クリーニング＆セットアップ。ナット溝を適切な深さに調整し、10,000番まで磨き上げてまるで宝石のような輝きに。

さらに、StewMac フルポケット・メイプル・ネックシムを使い、ブリッジサドルのビスがしっかり沈み込むよう調整。そしてスプリングをRaw Vintageに交換し、ストラトらしいフィーリングとトーンを引き出しました。

English⬇️ この1988年製1962アメリカンヴィンテージ・プレシジョンベースは、これまで手がけた中で一番ボロボロのベースでした。フレットは抜け落ち、ノブ、ネジ、サドル、ナットはすべて欠品。指板やピックガードには使用による深い傷、トラスロッドは限界まで締められ、指板は6インチくらいのラジアス、塗装は剥げ、配線は交換されているようで、ブリッジも間違いなく交換されていました。

まず、フェンダー純正ヴィンテージスタイルの60sベース用ブリッジを注文し、酢の蒸気と塩でエイジング。次に、指板をスチーム、サンディング、接着、さらにサンディングで修復。中型ジャンボフレットでリフレットしました。その後、フェンダーPure VintageのCTSポットとSwitchcraftジャックで電子部品を全交換。オーナーのフリオさんは古いピックガードを使いたいとのことで、ジャック部分にあった緑のパーツを成形してピックガードの欠けた部分にぴったりはめ込み、接着しました。そして、骨材から新しいナットを作成し、弦を張り替えてセットアップを完了。

This 1988 American Vintage Precision Bass was the most beat up bsas I’ve ever worked on. The frets were ripped out, knobs, screws and saddles, and the nut were all gone, the fingerboard and pickguard had serious indentations from use, the truss rod is maxed out, 6 inch radius, the finish is worn away, the electronics have appeared to been replaced, the bridge was replaced for sure.

First thing was order a Fender Vintage style 60s bass bridge and age it with vinegar fumes and salt. Then repair the fingerboard with steam, sanding, gluing, and more sanding. Refretted with medium jumbos. Then replace all the electronic parts with Fender Pure Vintage CTS pots and a switchcraft jack. Julio wanted to keep the old pickguard so I shaped the green thing he had on the output jack to fit the missing piece of the pickguard and glued it together. Then I made a new nut from bone. Then restring and setup.

English⬇️ 今日は面白いことがありました！1988年製のアメリカンヴィンテージシリーズのフェンダーを2本手がけたのですが、どちらもオリンピックホワイトで、なんとシリアルナンバーも近いんです。このストラトキャスターは、1弦がチョーキングできないという理由で持ち込まれました。その原因は、冬の乾燥した低湿度でよく起こるネックの順反りでした。幸いなことに、トラスロッドナットはほとんど回された形跡がありませんでした。

フレットの摩耗が目立ったため、軽いリクラウンを施し、フレットエンドをバターのようになめらかに仕上げました。その後、フレットをピカピカに磨き、指板を保湿し、フルセットアップを実施。素晴らしいギターでした！

It’s funny, I worked on 2 Fenders today both American Vintages from 1988 both in Olympic White. Even the serial numbers were close. This Strat came in because the first string wouldn’t bend. The reason was the neck was front-bowed which often happens in the low humid winter. Fortunately the truss rod nut looked like its never been turned. There was lot of fret wear so I did a light recrown and dressed the fret ends to be smooth as butter. Then a fret polish, fingerboard conditioning and a full setup. Great guitar.

The frets had some light wear from frets 1-12, so I gave them a professional fret level, recrown, and dress, ensuring smooth playability. The entire guitar has been deep cleaned, making it feel like it just came out of a Time Machine.

フレットのクラウンには、ホスコの便利な3mmラディアス・ジャンボフレットクラウンファイルを使用し、StewMacのセンタードZツールを併用しました。この組み合わせでフレットのトップを非常に滑らかに仕上げられます。
フレットエンドの仕上げには、StewMacのフレットエンドファイルと、1000番から10,000番のサンディングパッドを使用しました。これにより、触り心地が最高のスムーズさになりました！
どんどん良くなるLarryさんのIbanezをお楽しみに！

Each time I work on Larry from @Catchy_Claws’s Ibanez, I try to make it better than before. Today I crowned and dressed the frets!
For crowning, I used this handy 3mm radius jumbo fret crown file from Hosco in conjunction with the StewMac Centered Z tool for narrow tops. This combination makes the fret tops incredibly smooth.
For dressing, I used the StewMac fret-end file and sanding pads from 1000 to 10,000 grit. This gives the frets an ultra-smooth feel.
